Hey beautiful.
This video is LONG overdue. I’ve been meaning to blog about colour therapy for well over six months (not even kidding!), but as is often the case, the muse arrived at a pretty glorious, relevant time, and what better time to discuss the magic of colour and it’s healing properties than right now.
Watch this short video below, I’m sure you’ll love it. I can’t wait to hear your reactions when you realise what colours you’ve been drawn to, or what colours seem to be pushing their way into your life.
As promised, here’s some colour info to help you translate colour language.
Before I dive into the list, I just want to say this: I’m a huge fan of feeling the way something makes you feel. Those words I rattled off in the video about the colour orange, they’re not text book orange words; it’s how my body feels when I’m around orange. What’s beautiful is, often, whatever feeling a colour stirs up within us, ends up being the text book vocabulary anyway (yay for intuition!). What you’ll probably find, is once you’ve created the awareness around the predominant colours in your life at this moment (they’ll change, just as you do), and notice the way they make you feel, and after you dive in a little deeper, you’ll have many an a-ha when you recognise WHY it’s showing up.
For example. There’s shit loads of baby blue in your wardrobe. How did that happen?! Well, baby blue makes me feel calm and serene. Then you dive a little deeper, read a little literature, and you discover that by having blue in your life, you are more readily able to detach from stressful situations, see information more clearly, and express yourself more authentically (blue is the colour of the throat chakra).
What I love about colour therapy, is that with just a little knowledge about it (it doesn’t take much at all. In fact, when I say knowledge, I mean intuition) you’re able to prescribe yourself colours to make you feel better. It’s not rocket science. Plus, paracetamol or purple? I know which I’d prefer!
Feeling ‘blue’? Wear red lipstick. Bam!
Here we go.
RED. Wear red when you’re lacking enthusiasm and interest. When you feel fatigued. When you start to lose faith in the dream. When you feel insecure or anxious, or experiencing unwarranted fear. If you want to appear dynamic and bold, like I said above, wear red lippy, or a scarf. Accessorise, darling!
ORANGE. Wear orange if you feel unbalanced, or have just come out of a period of stress. When you feel bored, or feel as though time is dragging, or if you’re starting to resent change in familiar routines. Orange is great if you’re taking yourself a little too serious, or you’ve got limiting beliefs about your capacity to experience pleasure. It helps risolve blocked experiences, such as a lack in creativity.
YELLOW. Get amongst yellow when you’re confused, fearful, anxious, experiencing nervous and digestive disorders, have a weak and confused immune system, feeling burnt out and noticing that your memory is becoming poor. Yellow is also epic at uplifting lethargy and depression in a dull winter, and SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder).
GREEN. Green is helpful when you feel restricted or confined, when you need to let change happen (stop manipulating, girlfriend!) a need for new ideas and a new state of balance and when there’s a problem with personal relationships (over-dominance or subservience). Be careful though- negative can also brings on feelings of envy, jealousy and greed. Bottom line: feeling trapped? Go outside. Huzzah!
BLUE. Blue will help ease the flow of communication (write your speech notes on blue paper!). Jump on the blue train when you need to calm agitation or chaotic stress, and ease back into peace.
PURPLE (VIOLET). Put violet in your life when there is a need to rebalance life, a need to heal the body naturally, to use imagination in practical ways (again, hello intuition!), integrate new skills into your life, remove obstacles and calm hypersensitivity or energise lethargy.
Cool bananas! Well, I hope you found that useful. Share with me below your colour revelations, and don’t forget to share this with your buddies! Give 2013 a colour!
Catch you back here for one more cheeky post before the years out. Have a ripper day!
+++ I consulted the book: Crystal, Colour and Chakra Healing, by Sue + Simon Kelly for this blog post.
PS. COMING SOON…
ARE YOU ON THE LIST YET?
Great post, Tara. Thx for sharing. I know my colour for 2013 will be purple and it seems it’s a colour I’m consistently drawn to and every time I force myself to try new colours I just simply never feel right. I am bringing in more red into my life but through plants and accessories. I can only handle red in small doses OR as recently discovered mixing it with purple – it looks and feels good :-) XX Happy New Year!!!
PS: I adore the photo in your blog with all those rich bright colours – one thing I adore about India. Vibrant colour is so awesome X
Love your post Tara.
I love colour therapy. Do you know:
Aura Soma.
I am in love with Aura Soma. I think you would love it too.

Hey beautiful! Actually, I’m helping to create some crystal healing bath products with someone who’s experienced in Aura-Soma. Watch this space…
Wow Tara that’s fantastic. I would love to here more about it, when it’s ready.
Ditto on the love for this post! x
Aura-Soma is amazing and I use the bottles daily.
I’m all about red at the moment (I’ve been working with the Aura-Soma bottle (#5) relating to the base chakra).
I’ve resigned from my job (only 1 week to go – woo hoo!) so survival and money issues are rearing their head and I’m gravitating towards red to support me through this change.
Normally I’m attracted to vibrant colours anyway (so delicious) because I usually feel blah and drab without them and they always pick my energy up.
Awesome post! Your posts are always awesome, but this one was extra special. I’ve been really drawn to bring colours recently – especially yellow. And I think that’s because I’ve been moving from feeling stressed and unwell to feeling bright and alive. There’s nothing like a few days of holiday, the beach and some bright colours to help you rejuvenate!
Amen to that, gorgeous! Sounds beautiful. Yeah, that soft, fluro-yet-still-buttery-yellow has been catching my eye too. Ugh- colours are rad! One of my new year’s intentions in to surround myself in more vivid, lucid colour :) Glad you liked this post sweet heart x
So interested in this colour stuff Tara – my home is really peppered with calming blues (home is my sanctuary) and our bedroom wall is purple (always sleep so well here) But the colour most beckoning to me at the moment (and has been for a few months) is yellow both fluro and mustard yellows…no surprise after reading above about yellow working for confusion, anxiety and burn out! I’m also into bright pink at the moment, though its secondary to yellow. Colours are so delicious
Haha love this vid… I haven’t decided what my colour is yet! I’m going to play around and see what feels good.
