Freedom and F***

Get your bliss notes

I used to get so angry on Australia Day… It infuriated me that us white Australians somehow believe that this is ‘our’ country; that and that this nation’s total identity reflects the White Man’s values and beliefs.

But…

I’m not pissed off anymore. It IS possible to experience gratitude and compassion simultaneously. My heart will always go out to the indigenous folk who call this land their home, and at the same time, I count my blessings that I live in a country that allows me to mind my own business, switch off the news, express myself, and say ‘fuck’. I’m grateful I live in a time and place that supports my mission of becoming a powerful woman, whose soul purpose is to help other women step into THEIR power.

I’m done with the resentment. I believe we live in a beautiful world. It’s our job to make it more beautiful for tomorrow, and to do that, we need to embody compassion for tradition, and peace for the present moment.

Happy Australia Day- wherever you are.

I’m glad you’ve been able to let go of the resentment of The White Man :)

For me Australia Day is about the inclusion of everyone to celebrate our ripping country. To bring together the original inhabitants, the brown folk, the black folk, the yellow folk, the white folk. The immigrants who dream of a big open land to call their own and the emigrants who are thankful for their aussie upbringing. I write this as a daughter of immigrants from South America. They left during a time of great turmoil in the 1970s and we love the Australia of today for all its history & quirks.

I used to mock my dad when he’d get all teary eyed at the Australian anthem, now I’m right there with him. Happy (belated) Australia Day!

Totally agree – I used to feel pissed off too. And it’s true our country still has a lot of things to work out. But the older I get and the more I travel the more I feel connected to Australia and the gorgeous souls in it.

PS – just read your interview on Detox Your Mind – divine!! I especially loved the part when you spoke about seeing the women you admire as “real” and getting to know them properly. Such an inspiration!
