A few messages have rung true for me loud and clear this past week: deep nourishment and authenticity.
I’m talkin’: full-on, what’s-it-gonna-take, show-me-what-you’ve-got, I’m-a-ready-for-anythin’ kinda nourishment. Multi-faceted, holistic, integrative and humble. But before I get too cryptic on you, let me put it like this: I have been taking very good care of myself recently, and I think this is worth mentioning, because it’s coming from a higher, authentic place of love and inspiration.
We’ve all been in that worrisome space where we’ve detoxed to lose an extra few kilograms, or we awake in the early morning to sweat for not-so-right reasons. I know I have. But, what about leaning into a cleanse because our poor livers need a ‘filter change’? And what about going for that morning glow after setting a clear intention that you want to start your day off beautifully; active, present, and connected to spirit?
That’s the type of week I’ve had.
A few weeks ago, I shared with you my journey of facing my fear of femininity. It’s been a wild ride, and to be honest, I’ve loved every (tumultuous, terrifying) step along the way. And while for months I’ve been dedicating quiet time to heal these masks and instead, embracing what’s behind them, this week I beefed things up a little with a trip to the Naturopath.
Which brings me to this- I’ve never been more inspired in my life to do right by my body. We have a choice upon discovering that everything isn’t humming along as well as we’d prefer it to be. We can attach ourselves to the fear and guilt of the pain/disease/imbalance, or, we can do our very best to treat the next step as an adventure. I’ve chosen the latter. As I sip on my tea, take my herbs, and book myself in for massage after massage, the recognition of my commitment to living a vibrant and colourful life is deeply fulfilling. This is what this weekly feature- Self-Centred Sundays- is all about. It’s not about fluffing around (unless of course, that’s what you feel called to do!)- it’s consciously devoting time, energy, support, resources, whatever, to yourself, with this as the greater understand: The better I am, the better the world is.
Next time you’re lying face-down on a massage table getting some knots rolled out from under your shoulder blades, I dare you to allow yourself this thought: Right now, I am affecting the world in a positive way. Guilt, sayonara.

I also very proudly and adoringly attended the Soulpreneurs event in Brisbane; and watched four women I admire- Rach MacDonald, Julie Parker, Denise Duffield-Thomas and Susana Frioni- chat all things heart-centred business. Without a shadow of a doubt, my biggest take-away from Thursday night was via Julie Parker: authenticity breeds abundance. That shot me right in the heart, good and hard. And when she said that, I knew that there were a few projects and collaborations that I had to step away from.
Saying no to what’s no longer serving you is one thing, but making the decision to step away from those that you DO still love and enjoy, is a completely next-level experience. It certainly was for me, one which reminds me of the awesome concept by Steven Pressfield: Turning Pro. We do not have to fill our lives up. There is allowed to be space; the space is where the crisp, goose-bumpy inspiration comes from, so in case you needed just one more permission slip in this blog post, if it’s not an absolute, 100%, leave no holes barred YES, then sweet potato, you are SO entitled to lean out.
Also this week, I wrote for Wild Sister magazine, whose topic this month was SISTERHOOD- one of my favourite topics in the world, obviously- and Vienda Maria interviewed me for her Be Inspired series. I hate to sound narcissistic, but if you haven’t already checked out that interview, hop on over. It’s X-Rated… and interesting… and I may have been a little sleep deprived while writing it.
How I Celebrated Self-Centred Sundays This Week
A smiley chat to my Mumma Bear (and a hugely happy and belated Mother’s Day to all you mummy’s out there!). Breakfast and an organic market haul with my darling dad, who’s visiting from the country. Sober cocktails- green juice and kombucha- friggen amazing. A Chinese massage, and a little retail therapy, and a hell of a lot of herbal tea. At the end of the night, I curled up with a bowl of turmeric kraut, and watched What the Bleep Do We Know (which you can view for free on youtube). If you’re even moderately interesting in energy, quantum physics and consciousness, definitely check it out. Mind boggling.
Here’s How YOU Celebrated! Hashtag that shit #selfcentredsundays
Looking Forward
My intention for this week: Start creating again. Have I got some ripper ideas for Party Girls 2.0 or WHAT?!
I’m going to say YES to: Crazy long meditations and journalling sessions.
And NO to: Stale dreams and ideas. You can NEVER update your vision board too often.
What about you babe? Let’s hear all about how you nourished yourself this week, and looking forward onto the week ahead, share your intention, in the comments!
Beautiful fresh energy :) I am actually on Day 1 of a 7 day liver cleanse … which I am SO amped to be doing.
I am a HUGE quantum physics fan. We covered a lot of that in my Yoga Teacher Training … they were my favourite lectures by far :) … X
Your posts give me goosebumps every single time.
“Right now, I am affecting the world in a positive way” – cue a lump in the throat. Thank you for that, I need to refer to that daily.
xx
Honey I love what you are saying about doing right by your body and I feel exactly the same way. I have been doing a lot of internal work on clarity and authenticity of late and feeling amazing for doing so! The closer we come to our truth, the better we feel and the more grateful we are. Thanks for another beautiful post! xx
It’s been beautiful to see your journey to this place of so much health and love, Tara! My actions lately include lots of time in the kitchen cooking healthy food for me and my husband. Filling some gaps in my wardrobe so I feel sexy when I’m doing exercise. Taking a step out of my comfort zone to do a boxing course – blindly boxing, ha! I broke my “no new cookbooks in 2013” ban after an author event – the whole book is around vegetables and I just can’t get enough of them at the moment!
I love love love this Tara. Realising that loving yourself is not at all “selfish” by society’s defintion of the word. But instead nourishing your body and re-energising is exactly what the world requires of us for it too to sustain itself! Guilt-free living – I hear you sister!
Big love,
Meg xx
Hello gorgeous girl!
Another ripper post. Always inspiring.
I am feeling the need to take extra care of myself so much on this holiday. That may sound strange but we are in fifth gear every day and I haven’t had time to relax yet! Making it a priority :)
xx
Babe, I love so many things about this post. Saying no to things that don’t make your heart sing. Creating space. Taking care to a whole new level.
In the words of a very wise and beautiful soul, today I have ‘declared a day of healing’ and I have to thank you for giving so many of us the ‘permission’ that we don’t really need, but that we so often need to hear, in order to do these things for ourselves. x
Love so much about this post Tara! I agree, we all have a choice when it comes to our health. I’m not at all surprised you chose the latter. I’m falling more and more in love with herbs every day – they have such amazing healing powers xx
I look forward to these posts every Monday and am so inspired to make Sundays self-centered. Thank you Tara! x
Tara, this is such a beautiful post. Your photos just make it as well- so bright and creative, love it!
I resonated so much with you when you wrote, “I’ve never been more inspired in my life to do right by my body.” I believe if you treat your body well, the decisions you make in your life will follow shortly afterwards. This can work the other way as well, but if you look after one, you’ll look after the other.
I woke up this morning with the feeling that I really needed to step up and walk my talk more than I ever have before. It’s scary, but I know deep down I can’t grow unless I do. Thank for this beautiful reminder on authenticity.
Love, love what you do! xx
Beautiful! Very inspiring!
Loved this part: “[…] it’s consciously devoting time, energy, support, resources, whatever, to yourself, with this as the greater understand: The better I am, the better the world is […] Right now, I am affecting the world in a positive way. Guilt, sayonara.”
REVOLUTIONARY girl! LOVE it!! Let’s spread the word and be it :)
Freakin’ love your soul centred blogs Tara. A little endorphin fused shot of love and realness. Danke x
