Make Peace With Your Plate

Get your bliss notes

Six months ago I was living in Melbourne. I remember one day in particular; I was in the kitchen, sucking down a huge green juice, high on what was the early stages of my health kick. {I also had a convenient post marital glow!} While my juice was rapidly disappearing, I was scanning cyber space for some more inspiration; health info, recipes, whatever. I was a sponge, just as I am now, and I wanted to know more.
I don’t know how I managed to stumble across The Wellness Warrior, but it happened, and I was immediately hooked. I was even more stoked when I discovered that it’s creator, Jessica Ainscough was a similar age to me and Australian. Instantly, I felt as though I could more easily relate to her, she seemed approachable and real.

Jess’ story does not lack integrity. She’s not just another gal like me trying to write about physical and spiritual health, trying to spread awareness of the importance of dietary and lifestyle changes. Nope, I dip my hat to this gorgeous creature, and can only aspire to be as strong as her. Having been faced with cancer since the age of 22 {as well as threats of amputation}, Jess could not have chosen a better name for her alto ego, and website. She truly is a warrior {and pioneer, and champion, and kick ass super hero} of wellness, in all it’s forms.

By the way, now 26, Jess is a portrait of health in it’s entirety. She’s absolutely gorgeous, she brims with positivity, seems to own an ungodly amount of clarity for someone her age that’s faced all that adversity, and… the big one… she’s alive and thriving. Every time someone argues with me that diet and lifestyle isn’t all that important in determining the onset of non-genetic disease, Jess’ website is one of three in my mental library that I instantly want to direct them to {after I settle internal rage at what an idiotic and foolish argument I just had with said person}.

So, you can imagine how excited {understatement} I was a few weeks ago when Jess mentioned on her website that my blog was one that inspired her. Yeah. I thought- I’ve arrived! No, totally kidding, but I was stoked. Imagine then, how much more excited I became when Jess emailed me and asked me to read and review her new eBook. Um, are you kidding me?! YES. Of course! Anything you want! I’d LOVE to help. You can check out my review here, alongside a group of empowering women. But without further ado, here it is, Jess Ainscough’s newest eBook!

First things first- do not expect a diet book. Which I found totally awesome and refreshing. This book is full of tangible information, and by that I mean you can almost physically grab a hold of it, not to mention understand it. Jess has done her research, and then lived it, and then kindly thrown it at us with enthusiasm. Second of all, Make Peace With Your Plate does not discriminate. Jess advocates a whole foods plant based diet, but without the guilt trip for all you omnivores out there. In fact, while I love this book because it affirms my dietary and lifestyle beliefs, I think it’s specifically targeted at all the ‘normals’ out there. The omni’s, the party girls, the girls that eat for pleasure and then hate themselves afterwards. The girls that cut carbs and up the protein because that’s what’s healthiest, right? Well, no. But Jess isn’t staring you down with judging eyes, she’s guiding you, informing you about the facts, easing you into all of this new {and kinda scary} information having championed all of it.

I wouldn’t endorse something that I didn’t wholeheartedly believe in. Conversely, I can’t not endorse something that I do believe in, something that mirrors my humble message to the world. So, I urge you to support not only this young, beautiful and vivacious cancer survivor-turned-writer, but also your overall health. Yes, dammit, I’m going to say it- your body is a temple. For real. Jess, bravo friend, and well done. Your efforts are magical! Check out the run down on Make Peace With Your Plate.
