{DAVIDs} TEA Time

Get your bliss notes
Few things have excited me more in recent times than having discovered DAVIDsTEA here in Whistler. As I walked through the doors I instantly thought this is going to be fun, not dissimilar to a kid in a candy shop. The first thing that struck me was the smell- divine, as you can probably imagine. Secondly, the monstrous amount of tea, stacked up to the roof in beautiful big tins with gorgeous labels. Seriously, if I hadn’t already had a plan of exactly what I was going in there for, I would have been completely overwhelmed {albeit in a blissed out kind of way}. And thirdly, I really have to give mention to the two girls that were on shift, they were bouncing off the walls, answering all my questions with intelligent ease, and offered me a few testers of which I gulped down with glee!
As a side note, lately I’ve really been getting into Ayurveda. I feel as though as the years go by, the blue print for perfect health that I create for myself is always changing and evolving, but in this last month, Ayurveda has given me information that I’ve instantly been able to grasp onto and understand, unlike anything I’ve learnt before. Now, without going into Basic Ayurveda 101 too much {I’m still a novice at this stuff}, Ayurveda teaches us to interconnect mind and body. Whatever energies and elements exist outside in our environment, also exist in the terrain inside our bodies. There are three energy sources, or doshas that exist both inside and outside, vata, pitta and kapha, and between these three doshas exists the five elements {earth, air, fire, water and space}. Everyone has their own unique ‘cocktail’ of the doshas, much like how or DNA is unique, and while all three fluctuate in our bodies and minds constantly, we all have main body-mind constitution. Discovering your body-mind constitution is relatively easy, you can complete online questionnaires like this one, so long as you are prepared to be honest with yourself! Ayurveda acknowledges that it’s common for a person to have a dual constitution {i.e- Pitta-Kapha, someone who who is mainly Pitta with Kapha as a secondary dosha}, but after scrutinizing myself and being absolutely dumbfounded at how well this ancient practice knows me, I’m absolutely a pure Vata.
My jaw dropped as I read what is indicative of a Vata person and how well it related to me
  • Hands and feet are often cold
  • Veins are clearly visible
  • Prone to dry skin
  • Digestion issues, irritable bowl
  • Slight frame
  • Mind is busy with thoughts
  • Will be excited about something one day, and the next day it’s forgotten
  • Prone to anxiety
  • Compassionate
  • Determined
  • Enjoys having routine
  • Does not enjoy too much traveling too often
  • Poor circulation
  • Dislikes too much cold or windy weather {so true! I love the snow but when it’s windy or minus twenty I am a very, very sad person}
  • Loves the sunshine
  • Talks quickly
  • Creative
  • High strung
  • Basically it suggests that Vata people are a little scatter brain-ish, with good intentions, but often have bad memories. That’s me folks, to a tee.
So, I’m excited to continue researching Ayurveda. With this new information I now realize that I want to combine my ethical decisions {eating and living plant based} with science {evidence that supports plant based eating, information about deficiencies, food combining, etc} and ancient wisdom {Ayurveda, yoga} to form my brand new magical blue print of wellness! Exciting stuff.
Anyway, I digress, big time! Back to the tea! I’d heard through a new friend that DAVIDsTEA stocked Ayurvedics. And so, upon asking them for a tea suitable for my Vata, this is what I got…

All the Raj. It’s feminine, floral, delicate and so delicious. Rosehips, rose buds, fennel, rose petals, licorice, coconut, chili threads. Next up, I requested a digestive powerhouse for my poor tum…

Le Digestif. Totally soothing, sweet, a little numbing on the tongue; perfect post meal. Catnip, fennel, ginger root, peppermint, orange peel, stevia leaf. Both of these gorgeous teas are also caffeine free…

…When I feel like upping the ante, I add a squeeze of lemon, some fresh ginger, or some organic apple cider vinegar…

…Check out how gorgeous All the Raj looks in my super lovely glass tea thermos. I have never drunk so much herbal goodness in all my life, this thermos is always full, always!

This photo was meant to show you how happy and excited I am drinking tea out of my beautiful thermos, but in hindsight I look like something out of The Grudge. I apologize for that. But really, I love this tea. Glen is a huge fan of Earl Grey, so I’ma drop into DAVIDs and grab him a soul rocking organic version of old Earl.

So, have you heard of Ayurveda? What’s your dosha? Do you buy boutique tea? What’s your favorite super crazy flavor? Would you like to hear most about Ayurveda on this blog?
