Hello. This is my 100th post! Thank you, thank you for reading up my little life’s adventures. I love, appreciate and look forward to every comment you leave :) In the past year, s.d.s has evolved, for lack of a better word. Once it was purely devoted to my nomadic, snowboarding lifestyle with the odd dusting of music, inspirations and travel plans. And although those wonderment’s still live here, I myself am also evolving and it is transcending into this blog. One word totally encapsulates what I am investing a great deal of my time in: wellness. And sustainability, and truth, oh and organics, and nutrition… I’m not very good at this one-word-thing.
So tonight I wanted to share with you a video I saw a few nights ago. The last few months, as I delve deeper into the interest of my health, I have discovered websites, I have followed the twitter’s and facebook’s and blogs of health personalities, and within this community, when you are ready for it and open yourself up to possibilities of accepting new information, it is truly difficult to walk away from the facts that appear in front of you.
Mike Adams is a superstar. I am crushing on him because he is unequivocally committed to everyone’s health rights. Mike; the Health Ranger, is an investigative journalist with thousands upon thousands of hours of nutrition study behind him. He uncovers the truth about the real secrets behind good health, and reveals the fallacies surrounding corporate and government laws and regulations. Like I said, you have to be ready for this new information; it is not for skeptics; it goes against everything we as a community are brought up with. Have you considered that excellent nutrition can, in fact, prevent but more shockingly, cure cancer? Have you considered that a doctor would rather sell you drugs because they are affiliated with profit-focused drug companies, rather then suggest you take pure nutritional supplements, eat superfoods, get some sunshine, move your body. What about the hypocrisies regarding tobacco? Wellllll… I guess we would love you to quit, but in all truth, we benefit from tobacco tax and then make millions of dollars a years as a result of your quit patches(which continue to poison and pollute your blood)/doctors appointments/ specialist appointments/ chemotherapy/ radiation/ funeral costs. I’m pissed. My Glen is a smoker, and he hasn’t found the strength to quit yet. I yearn for his health as much as I do for him to be free of such b/s corruption and greed.
I don’t know guys… I feel like I have seen the light. I feel all encompassed by so much new information, and if you can’t already tell, I am deeply, deeply passionate about it. I’m not sure what has brought this on. As you know, my diet is now high raw, high organic. Perhaps also, subconsciously, this passion is connected to the fact that in four days I am going to be a wife; I am going to have a husband. One day, I might have children. Everything is spiraling out of control- technology, the climate. Governments (whether you believe it or not) and sizable, influential corporations are becoming increasingly ignorant and absurdly corrupt. I’m pulling a giant big bold red STOP sign out of my pocket. Enough. I want to be strong and healthy enough so I can continue doing what I love for as long as I possibly can. I want to be the woman that can support, nurture and wholeheartedly love my whole family in the right way.
I have started reading the labels on my cosmetics, and I’m disgusted. Are you? Do you care? If you don’t, what are your reasons? Do you choose brand names over and above issues such as animal cruelty and toxic ingredients and slave labour? Or have you just never, really stopped to think about it? I would love to know. I have never much been a fan of or been able to afford brand names, but nonetheless, I myself never stopped to think about the side effects from so much toxicity in the commercial world until recently. It’s important that you know in all my honesty, that I do not write this with a tone of judgement. I am just a curious creature.
What would you say if someone told you that sunlight, combined with exceptional nutrition, not only doesn’t cause skin cancer, but prevents it. I know, I know. Yeah right! Slip, slop slap, no hat no play, no solariums, no midday exposure, young adults dying in their late teens and early twenties from melanomas. What if you were then told that sun cream causes cancer. By now, if you are still reading this, thank you! I’ve got you thinking. High five.
Enough of me. Here is the man himself. The darling Mike Adams, here to serve you and me and anyone who gives a shit about themselves and their environment. If you don’t, that’s a shame.
The Truth About Sunlight, Cancer and Vitamin D
On that note, some beautiful, glorious, inspiring vitamin D :)
Everyone needs sun for Vitamin D and natural development but it’s the baking for hours and hours on end that is bad.
I had a patient that died last year, aged 27 with 2 children under the age of 5. She used to go to the solarium and presented to hospital with headaches/nausea/vomiting. They scanned her head, she had a brain tumor. The primary ca was a melanoma. From diagnosis to death it was about 3 months.
We cannot be complacent.
xox
agreed agree agree!!!!
people need to be more responsible for their health!!!! reading labels is SO important like you said… ahahahaaa I must admit though… I don’t read my cosmetic labels haaahahaa
sigh
it was awful to see it happen to her, the family coped really well they were SO loving and so calm about the whole thing… I felt so sad for her husband though :( :( :(
Hey Mez,
Not saying we should be complacent at all. I totally agree with you about baking for hours. Note what I wrote; which I think would be easy for absolutely anyone to skip over…. Mike talks about excess sun exposure mixed with POOR NUTRITION= melanoma and possible skin cancer.
I definitely believe that preventing and ‘curing’; anything and everything starts on the inside. I certainly don’t want to cause conflict seeing as you have spent your whole professional life learning what YOU believe in. But for me, personally, I am not going to wait to put my life in another person’s hands. I believe in excellent nutrition and internal rebuilding, and would rather hone on these beliefs than take pills or get chemical treatment.
Thank you for your feedback though lady, it must be truly horrible to see that happen to such a young family. I’m no where near as brave as you x
I just watched this, and to be honest, I have mixed feelings. I agree that we all should be taking good care to get nutrition and the vitamin D our bodies need, and I’ve never been convinced that getting some sun is bad… but this guy, while accusing others of oversimplifying the ‘facts’ to present their own case is guilty of doing the same thing himself.
I think there’s a bit of over-stating and paranoia in the video, which undermines a really important message. The take-home point for me is to remember how precious health is, and to take responsibility for our choices in determining our personal health.
There’s another issue that irks me that is never addressed by these gurus who are all into organic, high quality supplements, etc… and that is access. There are a lot of people who don’t have the money or for whom these products aren’t easily available, and I’m not sure we can criticise our national health care systems for not basing their recommendations and guidelines around things that are out of reach to so many of the people whose well being they are responsible for. Sorry for the rant… these are just my reactions straight after watching the video!
