The following is an excerpt from the Party Girls Guide to Peace.
Why is it that so many of us, when we go to a wedding or party, where the booze flows freely and there’s a certain seductive shine to the dance floor, despite our best intentions,we become hot messes, el pronto?
I believe, it’s because we place limitations and restrictions on ourselves, and we carve out a model of how we think we should behave.
I’ll stop at two.
I’ll drink wine, and not spirits.
I’ll be designated driver so I don’t drink. Errmmm. On second thoughts, I might just drink and then cab it home…
What if your intention instead, was simply: I’m going to be present tonight.
If that were your intention, then perhaps, you’d be able to actually taste and savour your beverage of choice, and even enjoy it! Perhaps you’d sip slower! You’d hold eye contact and exude undeniable grace. You could decide whether in fact you truly wanted another drink, after listening to the feedback from your body. And hey, let’s be honest, you might even remember why you’re there in the first place; to celebrate somebody you care about.
All you have to do, is be present. That is your only job. So get on out there, into the big wide world, feel the energy in your body and live from your heart space. Your solar plexus (the area above your belly button) is the only rule-maker in your life, and those ‘rules’ are being made on a moment-to-moment basis.
Fah-get about boundaries and restrictions and limitations! Consult your belly, always, every time, 100%. She’ll never fail you…

Over to you. Despite your immaculate diet and ever more immaculate intentions, do you find yourself reaching for glass after glass at social gatherings?
