Such Different Vixens: Lizzy McKenzie

I’ve got a lot in common in Lizzy.

We both love tattoos, energy healing, wearing high-top sneakers, and the word ‘rad.’

This funked-up, big-hearted, effing gorgeous Melbournite buzzed into my life in late 2013, after hiring me as her coach, and I can tell you- this girl is officially in bloom.

Lizzy’s not a client anymore – she’s a friend – and I was lucky enough to meet her in person a few months back. We celebrated the catch up in true kindred spirit style: raw tacos, smoothies, and a crystal healing.

A few extra reasons why I love this girl: she’s rebellious, she’s a non-stop student, she’s devoted to creativity, and as if she could hardly become any more fascinating… she’s got this gorgeously awkward and totally charming girl-next door demeanour. Which, I dig, by the way.

Oh, and her blog rocks.

Sum up your mission in one sentence.

To rock my life with everything I’ve got and to shine my light for others to do the same.

Can you share with us one of your most vulnerable moments (and in hindsight, what made it so beautiful?).

I’d have to say packing up my life in Melbourne and moving to London to be with the then love of my life when I was 20. We met while I was doing a semester abroad and I had to come home to sort some shit out before I planned on heading back. I’d gotten comfortable being back at home so when the time came to go I was scared, unsure and sad to leave my family that I almost just gave up, but I sucked it up and got on that plane. I followed my instincts which told me I needed to go and while I did fly home 6 weeks later (to then fly back again 5 months further down the track with him by my side – that’s a whole other story!) I knew in my heart I needed to go. It was beautiful because I completely surrendered to life and went on my journey and we ended up having a beautiful, transformational relationship that changed me for the better and made me the partner I am today to my beautiful man.

What turns you on?

Can I say café brunches? They get my juices going hard. Good food and coffee and conversations with friends about the week just past. I’m in my element! Oh, and Blair and Chuck on Gossip Girl. Damn they’re hot; they totally turn me on (yes I know it’s all acting!).

On a more inner note, writing and meditating. That moment you feel like your floating. That’s the good stuff.

What makes your blood boil?

I’m accepting of most things these days, but there’s one thing I need to get my zen on for and that’s people who think drugs are cool. I immediately think they’re lame which then makes me feel lame for thinking they’re lame. So in a roundabout way, what makes my blood boil is me being judgemental. I’m learning to not judge others for their lifestyle choices.

How do you define confidence?

Confidence comes from the root chakra that then rises up to your sacral. It comes from a place of being grounded and knowing who you are. It comes from feeling safe. It’s not about putting on a sexy outfit and rocking it as a means to feeling confident. That confidence has gotta come from something deeper first and then you know you don’t need to wear that sexy outfit to feel confident at all. You know you can get away with whatever the hell you want to wear. That’s confidence.

When was the last time you experienced pure, unadulterated joy? Can you give us the juicy details?

Can I be honest here? I’m always a bit stumped when it comes to joy. What’s my joy? I’m still working on it. I know it’s weird but I’ve been working my arse off for so long that I’ve always associated joy with guilt. I’m working on it. My most recent joy report comes in a small parcels: my puppy and watching him sleep, and that millisecond glimpse I had in the mirror the other day and thought ‘wow Liz, you’re bangin’ today’ (ps I was wearing my trackies!).

What makes you feel most ENLIVENED?

When I offer someone a piece of advice and it stops them in their tracks and they go ‘huh?’ The icing on the cake is when a few days later they tell me that what I said the other day really got them thinking. Mmmmm.

Oh and making people laugh. That is the ultimate.

Combining my passions with a business I love makes me feel …like I’ve truly arrived. It makes me realise all those years of trying to figure it out were all part of my grand plan to get me here and it feels oh so right. I got this.

Few people know this about me, but I …know all the dance routines to Britney’s old school tunes, including the duet Sometimes which I still frequently pull out with my bestie. There goes my rockstar credentials. Hit me baby one more time.

I secretly wish I could … fly planes Top Gun style.

To me, the words ‘Such Different Skies’ mean … Never forgetting that everyone is on their own journey, experiencing what they are supposed to this lifetime. And it’s probably completely different to yours but that’s okay.

What an honest babe, huh? I particularly LOVE what Lizzy had to say about the link between joy and guilt. Can you relate? Show Liz some love in the comments.
