The Surfer: A Poem

Get your bliss notes

I’m perched, inspired in my nest
My skin golden, kissed by rays
I am whispering
With the white wash.

It is hypnotic;
This tug of war between the depths
And the sands.
Only the few on surfboards
Seem to understand.
Patience is precious.

Spirit’s breath; the breeze, welcomes me
As does the mischief of a bird’s song,
The glowing orange planet
And Mother Ocean’s crashing rhythm.

This; just one more cycle of morning-
A fraction of eternity
Has me knowing:
I am the Sun
The breeze
The waves
The song of the birds.
I am the surfer.

PS- Can you guess which fascination is going to replace snowboarding when I move to the coast? :)

Oh Tara, this is really beautiful. (And awesome of you for sharing, poetry can be so personal!)

A line in your poem reminds me of this thing I have said to myself for ages. Whenever someone is royally pissing me off and I am finding it difficult to be compassionate even though I know I should, I tell myself ‘we are the ocean’. Which to me means, it’s really easy when you’re standing next to the ocean to feel so connected to the whole world. The ocean’s crazy awesomeness makes it easy for you to feel that and to feel a part of the One and filled with love and togetherness etc. So by extension, sometimes it helps me to imagine that the crazy woman at my work who micro-manages me to within an inch of my life also probably feels the same way when she stands next to the ocean. She’s human too. She must feel the ocean’s awesomeness. She deserves my compassion too.
      Hence: We are the ocean.
(I was *so* disappointed to find out there is a Brit-pop band by the name of ‘we are the ocean’. I totally wanted to name my blog that!!)
Anyway, what I am trying to say is: I love your poem!

Ladies thank you so much. I wear my heart on my sleeve a little these days with posting my poetry. But vulnerability is sexy, so I’m getting the hang of it. Thank you!
@Jess- such BEAUTIFUL words and I love your analogy. Sometimes (no matter how tough it is), it’s important to remember we’re all the same (same-same, but different). Thanks for stopping by again sweetie.
