Post Bikram Bowl

Get your bliss notes

A few days ago when I got home from Bikram, I had that wonderful sleepy yet energized and kinda hungry feeling, and I wanted to treat my tired muscles to something super satisfying. It was about midday, and I hadn’t eaten anything solid yet (I drunk a litre of orange.pear before the class). I craved for something sweet and full of texture, yet still totally nutritious… Read on>>

Icecream Buckwheatie Breaky (vegan, raw, gluten and soy free, cane sugar free)
Serves 1

  • 1/2 cup buckwheat groats– I soaked mine overnight, then soaked them again during the day, then rinsed then dehydrated. If you’re like me and don’t own a dehydrator, just leave them in the oven on the lowest temperature with the oven door ajar for a few hours. Alternatively, bake them until they’re crunchy.
  • 1/2 banana
  • 4 or 5 strawberries
  • 2 dried figs
  • Some of my mango macadamia ice cream
  • Non dairy milk of your choice (soy, almond, rice…)
Blend the banana, strawberries and dried figs (I love blending frozen banana, it’s so creamy!) Place that on top of your buckwheat alongside the mango ice cream and top with a little ‘milk’, I used soy. And there you have it, double ice cream for breakfast! This is brilliantly simple and so delicious, I love the crunch and nuttiness of the buckwheat combined with the creamy and frozen fruit. Winner!
As always, I encourage you to use my recipes as inspiration, rather than trying to replicate them. Use whatever you have, it’s all about improvisation!

In writing this post, it’s definitely time for me to hit the Bikram studio again today.
Have you tried hot yoga? What did you think? What did you struggle with most?
I have a condition called flat back, so I struggle a little arching my spine in some of the positions, but I definitely feel as though my body has responded well to this yoga, and over time, hopefully I can correct the curvature of my spine, slowly but surely (like all good things).

Side note; I am reading a beautiful book titled Awaking the Buddha Within. It’s not only encouraging me to practice yoga more often, but also to just breathhheeeeeee from time to time, to meditate, to forgive and to be grateful. It’s not often that we stop in this day and age, amidst careers, relationships, conference calls, blogging, running errands, paying bills, jumping from one technology to another… and really think about what it is that we’re thankful for, even the little things. So, in starting a tradition from here on in-

Today I am grateful for my health, and for my willingness to improve it.
What are you grateful for today?

just bought a month pass to bikram and LOVE it. i have been getting up at 530am to go, and it starts my whole day off right. one of my instructors said the other day “It’s only 730am and the hardest part of your day is already over.” I loved that!

K this is so crazy. Today I was thinking about how I have been down lately and how I can cheer myself up, so I started a “thankful jar” and stuck it on my desk and promised myself that I am going to write something I am thankful for and stick it in there every day! Just like your “thankful” tradition you are starting! Crazyyyy!

      Great minds think alike :)

@em- do it! Don’t even think about it, just do it!

@Jessy- Cute. Yeah, I think you and I are on very similar paths. It’s a good one! I’m excited about it :) So miss Jessy, what is it that you’re thankful for today?

As a former sick person, I am also soooo grateful for my health. Anytime I start to obsess about my appearance, I just take a step back and thank my body for allowing me to do all the things I want to do. I admire you for doing bikram. I love yoga but I haven’t tried that version, I’m too scared. :)

I am grateful that the Universe has presented to me all the wisdom that I need just when I need it. :)
